Microschool vs Homeschooling Business
What's The Difference?

Many teachers don’t realize they have options for creating the school of their dreams!

Microschools

A tiny school? A reinvention of the one-room schoolhouse? Yes, indeed! Microschools are popping up all over the world! There’s so much excitement about this educational option, as microschools offer a highly personalized curriculum for children at a lower cost than traditional private schools! Microschools can be viewed as a replacement for traditional educational paradigms worldwide. Due to general dissatisfaction with school structures and content - both in private and public schools - microschools are growing like wildfire! They offer teachers an incredible income with the permission to build a school based on their individual teaching gifts and values!

Each microschool can vary in creation, but you will most likely find microschools to have

  • Teachers crafting lessons to be more of a “guide” for students, rather than a lecturer

  • Personalized educational plans for a variety of learners with project-based lessons

  • Anywhere from a handful to 150 student enrollees - typically from around 10 to a few dozen

  • A highly personalized educational plan for students, due to smaller class sizes

  • Multiple ages learning together

  • Tuition at $10,000 or less

Microschools are composed of community builders where  students consistently meet together on a weekly basis for learning.  Unlike a homeschool co-op, micro schools offer full time or part time instruction to students who meet with one another on a regular basis for learning (typically 5 days a week for a full year).  In addition, micro-schooling can be seen as an in between of private schooling and home schooling. Microschools can be of any learning model: Montessori, Flipped Classrooms, Blended Learning and so forth. THe model of microschool is determined by the creator/teacher!  Typically, schedules in a microschool look different compared to a traditional or private school and are created by the lead instructor or microschool owner. Microschools do not have to be private schools. Parents and Teachers can create their own microschool depending on the state, country or province. Many homeschool families are drawn to microschools because of the impactful learning experience that can be harnessed and built upon for their unique child.   As an affordable option, private and public school parents are intrigued with the affordable option and unique high value of learning.

Homeschooling Business

A homeschooling business focuses on a niche market of students: those who are homeschooled. Much like private tutoring, these teachers will work with homeschool families to provide lesson plans, tutoring, educational materials, games, intervention, and enrichment.

A variety of options lie in the hands of the teacher when creating a homeschooling business. You are able to create your schedule and use the environment of your choice (travel to students’ homes, open your own home). You can provide homeschool-based child care, consult for homeschool families, create homeschool workshops, and offer instruction in any field of expertise: Fine Arts, STEM, Math, Science, Foreign Language, etc.

Homeschooled families need a variety of products and services, and your homeschooling business can be a solution. In addition, a homeschooling business offers the homeschooled family flexibility in their child’s schedule and learning; homeschooled students who receive instructional time based on the desired amount from the family.

If you are a teacher interested in creating flexible hours while working closely with homeschooled families, a homeschooling business may be the perfect place to start!
